What a GLORIOUS day!!!

Well it has just been the best day ever this year. I got up and in no time at all the sun was rising and the sky was clear....I still had shopping and laundry and the usual Mum stuff to do but I was determined to find time to get to the allotment...and so I did.

The weather stayed glorious all day and the sun had some real heat to it so although jackets were on, jumpers were off.

My Dad and I made a real difference today with getting the greenhouse squared up and staked down...getting the weedkiller oin the plot and even getting some of the glass in. Things are starting to take shape and my minds view is beginning to show. No pics. yet ...not until it's finished. We stayed up the allotment until the sun started to set around 8:00 pm and as we were leaving spotted some glass which I was told I could help myself too if any would fit so it looks like I won't have to buy as much glass as first though either...could today get any better???? I think not!!

Now all we have to decide is whether to clean the greenhouse glass...My Dad says yes as it will look all nice, I say no as it will let to much sun in and may burn the plants....what do you think we should do???

  2. Gah, I'm so jealous! Today was beautiful - I was dying to be down on the plot but I was stuck at work. Why does it always rain on my days off??

Good luck with the new plot and have a great season!

  3. Maybe put only tropical plants inside the glass house that can absorb more heat?

  4. Anticipation is maybe the greatest feeling. I think that's why I like Christmas so much, and that's also why I like spring so much. Springtime gives us the anticipation, and the first look of the good times that are coming.

  5. Maybe get your dad to clean the glass if it is really dirty but it won't stay like that for long and by the time the sun is stronger (hopeful or what?) the glass will be dirty again!

  6. Sounds like you had a great day. It's surprising how much we can do when the sun shines for a change.

  7. Hi, I'm back!

I would go for cleaning the windows but I heard a great idea for keeping some of the sun off your plants inside, thought I may try it myself... if we ever get a greenhouse.

Grow Runner Beans up the outside! This gives the beans somewhere to climb and their presence shades the plants inside! I guess any climbing plant would work. - And it looks pretty!

Farm Guy's dad grew a Grape Vine in his (inside) along the roof, that did the same shading thing, but he did have a massive greenhouse!

  8. I made it to the lotty too yesterday and also had great weather to contend with, got the spuds planted.

    Going back there today.

I also don't clean the glass, due to laziness and I think it also helps with the shading but last year I still had to create some additional shading, this is what I did.

  9. Hi, Tanya. I came from your article in Nature Center Magazine. You seem to be having such fun with your allotment. I can't wait to see the fruits of your labors. I've never used a small greenhouse like you have.

  10. Hope your little greenhouse works out for you. Nothing like a good garden for healthy food. Saw your picture over at Nature Center Magazine. Good stuff.

  11. WE have a grapevine in our large greenhouse in the garden. It works well as shading but be warned it needs keeping in control or else you end up only having grapes in the greenhouse. It does take a lot of room too.
