OK...firstly I am well aware that it's Thursday today and that I haven't done a weather watch for two weeks now.
This is where the apologies come in....it's not that I haven't been thinking about all my readers and I didn't mean to neglect you it's just that times seems to have been running away with me lately and with the children being off school when I do get 5 minutes to myself they either want to do something or are hogging the computer....don't you just love motherhood!!!!
Anyway I have been up to lots this last couple of weeks and I promise a full update tomorrow but first to the weather.
It seems to have calmed down and warmed up this week...Last week we had none stop torrential rain and I resorted to getting my scarf and winter coat out and this week I have got my summer skirts out again....I'm hoping this weather stays for a while and we are in for an Indian summer!!
Now the plea (OK...maybe I should beg in light of my absence!) for help. I have made some Bramble jelly...of which I have made before with no problems what-so-ever. However this time it just doesn't want to set. As always I did my usual saucer test but for some reason it hasn't worked for this batch. I think maybe being in a huge rush didn't help and that maybe the set I was looking for wasn't really there but as I was running out of time I just saw what I wanted to see!! I know my quantities of sugar were right but obviously I didn't get the mixture hot enough this time so I am looking for a little advice. Basically all I want to know is would it be OK to tip the whole lot back into a pan and reheat to the correct temperature and re-pot. Anyone got any ideas if this would work??? I haven't tried the Jelly so I don't know how it tastes but licking the spoon after I had done was pretty good so I don't think there's an issue there. So can anyone solve my problem or answer my question??
Here's hoping!!

Yep - re-boil, it'll be fine, I do it all the time! In my humble opinion jellies are the most difficult things to get the correct set for.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracey...you're a life saver!!
ReplyDeleteGo for a re-boil and if the taste is ok, add a little lemon to add pectin.
ReplyDeleteGlad someone knew the answer as I haven't a clue!
ReplyDeleteNo need for apologies, life happens and it comes first :) See you got your answer to the jelly. Good thing cuz I couldn't help with that :)
ReplyDeleteI'm no cook at all, so I'm glad you already have a few good answers. I make pretty good hamburgers though.
ReplyDeletethanks for all your help on this... I will get to fixing the bramble jelly today!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard other people mention that they've reboiled before so it should be ok to do. Another glorious day here again today, I hope the weekend stays fine too.
ReplyDeleteYou have lovely bramble pancake syrup!
