Allotments tasks in photos!!

Well I figured I really should write a post but to be honest I'm kind of whacked and my brain doesn't seem to want to find so many words so I hope you enjoy the photos of the few tasks I have left and a couple of autumn delights!!

raspberry canes
Raspberry canes waiting to be cut back for the winter.

runner beans
Runner beans waiting to be pulled up...winter dug under the fence and then the canes erecting for improvement of growth next year.

winter dig
This is the new plot I was given this year...all dug over ready to let the frost give it a helping hand throughout the winter!

cauliflower
A cauliflower...well I guess that was kind of obvious...however this is my first ever successfully grown cauliflower... :-)

lettuce
The winter lettuces growing nicely in the greenhouse!

So as you can see there are a few bits to be done but I have time yet and I think I have got on pretty well this year!

  1. Well done, it all looks great. I now have 'cauliflower envy' as I too have never managed to successfully grow one.

  3. I can totally relate to feeling whacked :) I tried to grow cauliflower once and then found out after mine got a nice suntan that you need to pull the leaves up over it to keep it white. Or at least that was what I was told :) Never did try it again

  7. GLA...I actually have two half plots....I am quite lucky as they are right next to each other but not side by side...so I have and 'A' half and a 'B' half...hope that makes sense!!

I will post a picture of the plots layout so you can see what I mean.

Mal...I have no idea what type of winter lettuce i am growing now...I new when i first put them in but I can't remember and as I cheated and bought plug plants in town i don't even have a packet to refer to...sorry!

Ann...I really should cover my cauliflowers but to be honest I don't mind eating them if they aren't pure white..we had one for dinner today and it was delicious!!

Glad you enjoy the picture posts Craig...there may be more to come!!

Fran...try growing late cauliflowers as thats what I have done this year and was greeted with success!!

  8. You've done well getting your new plot dug over. The frosts will make it workable for next year. Well done on the Cauli.
