Allotment summers = work!!!!

So I mentioned in my post a couple of days ago that although I had been absent from the computer I hadn't been totally absent from the allotment...so what have I been doing down there???

Well not much to be honest but here is a little update.

newly planted potato bed
I managed to finally get the ground cleared and the rest of my main crop potatoes in. The variety is Desiree. I got a good crop from them last year and they have already started coming through.

weeds
Apart from that the concentration has been on keeping the weeds down.Add about another three buckets to the above picture....

And triple again what you see above and you will about have my workload!

So that is pretty much all I have been doing....but I guess it's par for the course at this time of year...and I bet you are all in the same boat. Of course there has been the delight of harvesting my produce too but I'll save that for tomorrow!!

  1. harvesting produce sounds heavenly. So far all we've gotten out of our little garden is one tomato :) Those weeds sure are hard to keep up with. Could explain why my flower beds have more weeds than flowers

  3. Same here - clearing weeds and harvesting - and watering take all our time too! Then coming home and chopping, stewing and freezing. Oh forgot one thing that us dominating - scratching insect bites. We know we shouldn't but you try refraining when you have red bumps almost everywhere!

  5. Ann...it's only classed as a weed if you don't want it there...so just pretend you do!!

I do love it when I get to the time where I can harvest and know that all my work has paid off!

Ratty...one thing about owning an allotment/vegetable patch is that you can never claim you have nothing to do!

Sue...I love the harvest...don't mind the watering...hate the weeding...and I do hate dealing with the gluts once I get home...but it's worth it over the winter!

Jo...I don't think any of us really ever get to grip with the weeds!
