Happy Mothers Day...at 'The Edible Garden Show'

Well it's Mothers day for all of those in the United Kingdom today and so I treated my Mum this weekend to a day out at 'The Edible Garden Show'.

I don't know if any of you know anything about it but feel free to check out the link.

Apparently it has run for a couple of years now but this is the first time I have heard of it.

We had a lovely day out albeit very tiring with all the walking around!!

Freebies were everywhere so I managed to bag a few seeds and also seeds were on offer at trade prices on a lot of stalls.

I picked up quite a bit of information on manures, wormeries composts and such as well as meeting some people from the NSALG.

I even bought a few things and really enjoyed the talk by James Wong on growing your own spices and herbs, a couple of which I managed to purchase at the show.

Lakritz-Tagetes. A liquorice tasting herb

My liquorice herb.

Wasabi plant. Herb
The Wasabi plant.

Dwarf dessert cherry tree. Stella

A dwarf dessert cherry tree...Stella.

I also got myself a sharpening stone and some very good pruners/secateurs.

Lots of things were available to be tasted..some which were divine...and some which left me gagging a little. I also found out that I really don't like goats cheese!!

Anyway I will be posting about some of the things I found out which I think might be of interest over the coming weeks and I hope you all have a Happy Mothers Day.

  1. We bought tickets for what was supposed to be the first one of these but it was cancelled due to lack of interest and to be honest after that disappointment we haven't bothered since. Maybe we should!

    1. I definitely recommend it for a day out...not too much to do in just one day and with plenty of variety!!

  2. Now I'll know to stay away from goat cheese.

    1. You never know Ratty...you may really like goats cheese. I have always been one for trying things myself and not going on other peoples opinions.

  4. Sounds like a good day out. I remember the first one being cancelled, I'm glad it eventually got off the ground. My cherry tree is a Stella, the cherries are delicious. It took three years for mine to produce a decent harvest, but that might be down to the fact that it's growing in a container. I love goats cheese, lovely with a bit of beetroot.

    1. I'm glad to hear my cherries are going to be nice. The tree that died was a sunburst cherry but they didn't have one of these available and this was recommended to me by the stall owner. Hopefully it won't be too long before I get to taste my first one...fingers crossed it survives this time!!

Maybe I should try goats cheese again with a bit of something?!?!

I have herb beds at home and the allotment...I think it's always nice to be able to add a little bit of extra something to your cooking..plus I love my herbal teas!

  6. I went on the Saturday and really enjoyed it. Thought it was just the right size for a day's wandering round and lots of talks and demonstrations to dip into as well. Thoroughly recommend it for next year!

    1. Glad you enjoyed your day too Jenny. I agree with you about the size of the show. So many shows put on are just too much to cover in one day and then I can never make up my mind which things I want to see more and always end up going home disappointed as there was something I really wanted to check out and didn't get chance to.
