Seeds, sowing and sunshine!!

Well I really struggled with a title for this post as I have had such a wonderfully busy weekend!!
It has been gloriously sunny and today there was very little breeze and the sun shone in a clear sky all day. In fact it was so warm I even stripped down to a t-shirt and changed the wellington boots for my regular gardening boots as it was so warm.

So what have I been up to then??

Well I had a good sort through of my seeds so I could plan what I would be growing this weekend, got the garden all tidied up and got to spend some time down the allotment doing a few tasks too.

I can honestly say I am worn out...but it's one of those pleasurable exhaustions full of accomplishments and vitamin D!!

So what will I be planting this year???

seeds...The roots.....carrot (Mokum Hybrid), Beetroot (Boltardy), Parsnip (White Gem), Celeriac (monarch), Leek (Autumn king), Swede (Brorar) and Turnips (Purple Top Milan)

seeds...array of salads and herbs
And finally there will be the usual array of salads and herbs grown but I haven't narrowed these down quite yet!!

So what did I get accomplished on the allotment then?? Well not really as much as I would have liked!! I finally got my garlic and got that planted today and also got some broad beans potted up in the greenhouse. I also put into peat pots, beetroot, celeriac and parsnips. The peppers and Berries for the greenhouse have also been potted up and the leeks sown into a tray, now all I have to do is remember to go down daily and water them. I am hoping to get a few hours throughout the week to get a bit more tidying up done and a few things sorted ready for some serious work next weekend...oh and of course I still have my potatoes and onion sets to talk about!!

Hope your weather has been as wonderful as hours and that you have all had a great weekend!!

  1. You always seem to get so much more accomplished than a mere mortal should! I hope this is a year of bounty for all gardeners.

    1. I don't know about getting more accomplished than a mere mortal but I certainly was very happily tired by the end of the weekend!!

  2. It sounds like you are quite organised, I really need to sit down and plan what i'm growing this year. Hopefully the sunshine will stay, so seedlings can flourish. From your seed choices, Carrot mokum hybrid sounds interesting, I haven't heard of that one before, is it a coloured carrot?

  3. That's a pretty big list. I still don't know what I'm going to plant. I hope I don't get to it too late.

    1. Don't worry too much about time Ratty, I have found that in the past my seedlings have always found there own way of catching up when they are planted a little late. You should try and make some decisions on what to grow soon though.

  5. It's amazing what we can get done when there's a bit of sunshine. The weather is supposed to last for a while now so I hope they've got it right. I'm hoping to get some more seeds sown now that the greenhouse has been sorted out and there's somewhere to put them all.

  6. Well it sounds like you got a lot done to me. We had wonderful weather here yesterday and isn't it great when you can spend all day outside like that. It always makes me sleep so much better at night.
To answer your question about the coin I made, it was just a picture. I didn't print it out or anything. Just showed it to my son

    1. Glad your having a spell of nice weather too Ann. I love to get outside, I'm not one for sitting in the sun but I do love to work outside, I find it gives me a great sense of accomplishment.
The coin picture was really good, I bet your son loved it!
