Anyway I didn't think you'd want me to drone on forever so I took lots of pictures for you to look at instead!!
One half of my allotment. |
So this is the first half...nicely weeded and raked. I have managed to plant out my onions here too...a row each of red and white.
Second half of the allotment. |
This is the second half. The bricked area is awaiting the strawberries I have ordered and I have put in my potatoes now. Pentland Javelin for my earlies along with a few tubers each of Charlotte and Swift.
Greenhouse Area. |
All the tubs have been sorted and the Greenhouse area tidied and weeded. I have also now removed all the manure to the manure heap and sorted out the cold frame and raised bed.
The pond/wildlife area. |
My pond area is nicely getting wild with lots of wild flowers coming through and there is some frog-spawn present too. I am really happy with how this is growing and I will sprinkle some more seeds round here too to add to the collection of bugs that visit.
Lovely Rhubarb. |
The rhubarb is coming on nicely and I will soon have to pick the stems before they get too stringy. As you can see I have plenty of manure in the background in storage for next year!!
Shed and fruit bushes. |
Weeds left to be dug out. |
And finally I have took a photo of the weeds I have yet to dig out...just to prove to all my readers that I don't always have a wonderfully tidy plot...after all nobody is perfect!
So that is what I have been up to over the last week. There is still plenty to be getting on with but I am really pleased with how things are progressing and I really think that as the years go on maintaining the allotment gets a little easier with the things I am putting into place.
I'm hoping to get those last weeds out this week and to get some more seeds sown in the greenhouse too.
Hope you've all had a great Easter and hope that the weather has been kind to you so that you have been able to enjoy your bank holiday weekend!!
Oh and have you noticed how all my photos aren't in a straight line?? I think I may like this new blogger after all!!
.
We spent yesterday weeding at the plot.
ReplyDeleteSo are you going for edibles or ornamentals in the pots?
Weeding on Easter Sunday Sue?? Now that's commitment!!
DeleteIt will be edibles in the pots, I only grow edibles down the allotment as I hate to think I may be wasting my space !!
Blueberries? If the pots are big enough? Trailing strawberries, tumbling cherry tomatoes?
DeleteI have two blueberries already Sue and was pondering on getting another...I don't think I want to put tomatoes in as I want something that will last...Strawberries are a good idea...however I have tried them in pots before and I always seem to end up killing them?!?!
DeleteWow what a superb looking allotment. I'm struggling to dig over my new allotment which is tiny in comparison - must do better!
ReplyDeleteIt's always hard when you are first given a new plot...especially if it's been neglected. But don't get disheartened....the more you do the easier it will become...I know I am talking for experience!!
Delete:) Your shed looks like an old west claim shanty.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you tpals....I love to think of old rickety things....maybe I could give an old west theme to my allotment?!?! lol
Deletea week off from work? I'm jealous....lol You sure used your time wisely, you got so much accomplished.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks actually Ann...it's spring break and I work in a school...I guess it does have it's perks!!
DeleteWow, it's all looking fantastic, I really must do better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo...and I always think your allotment looks great too so I think you are doing great already...I guess we are just harder on ourselves than we are on others!
Deletewow!! oh lucky you!! I would love to have a huge garden like that!! enjoy enjoy! I am using the last of my frozen basil from last yr for pasta tonight...glad the new seeds are sprouting!!
ReplyDeleteMy garden at home is quite small which is why I decided to put in for an allotment so that I could start growing my own fruit and veg and I wouldn't give it up for anything now...there is nothing quite like the taste of freshly harvested fruit and veg!!
DeleteI have never frozen my herbs before only dried them...however I am hoping to get another freezer for storage this year so it may become an option!
That's pretty impressive! You've set the bar pretty high for the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteI don't know so much that's it's impressive but I feel pretty proud of my self right now!!
DeleteThanks for visiting and commenting.
I really have allotment envy when I see your space! Your plot is tidy, well constructed and the soil looks excellent. Well done you :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Tanya...you'll get there too...it took me 4 years to get where I am and I do feel that each year as the soil is worked and I do a little something else keeping up with things gets easier. You really shouldn't be envious...yours is a wonderful plot too!!
