The Weather won't cooperate!!!!

There is much to do...after all it's spring...but with the recent weather nothing is happening outside so I still haven't managed to get my broad beans in yet...the ground here is very heavy and wet due to the amount of rain.

I have to say I am confused on the hosepipe ban...our soil was lovely and workable before the rains...not too heavy and just wet enough to be able to plant without watering in. Now with the recent rains we have puddles collecting on bare earth and it's impossible to even walk across the plot to just pull a weed up...and we are told the ban won't be lifted before December no matter what the weather.

I guess moaning about it won't really get me anywhere though....I've tried praying but I'm not having much luck with that either!!

Anyway I will get the beans in the ground by next weekend no matter what mother nature throws at me but I am dubious about sowing my seeds straight to ground and fear that my potato tubers could end up rotting away below the surface at the rate the rain keeps coming!!

So what have I been doing to keep me busy then??? Well a bit of knitting, playing my DS, some catching up on a bit of TV....and then some reading to put in future posts.

I didn't start the reading with posts in mind but I have been researching some things and I thought as I learn about bit's and bobs I will share it with you...after all you may or may not know it...and I guess you may or may not be interested...but I will write it anyway...if you start to get bored of me than just tell me to shut up or put up some photos instead...i really won't be offended!!

Oh I also helped out at the allotment shop yesterday...one of the many perks (lol) of becoming a committee member...but I did end up with some free cabbage seedling and a freshly harvested cauliflower so it wasn't too bad of a deal!!

No pictures for you today...I figured everyone is probably as fed up of the rain as I am!!

  1. We've had lots more rain here today too. I managed to get my broad beans in last week but I haven't been to the allotment since so I hope they're doing ok.

    1. It certainly doesn't help us get sorted ready for summer...I think eventually I will have to just resign to getting soaked through to the skin and very muddy in order to keep things up to date!!

  2. Tricky conditions at the moment, lovely sunshine this morning whilst planting out cabbage plants only to see them covered in hailstones two hours later!

  3. Oh dear the mention of allotments committes - now I'll have nightmares.

We still haven't sown any seeds direct either and I too have taken to reading but in my case novels!

Sharing research is always good as even if we had known it at some time it's good to have memory refreshed

    1. The committee isn't so bad Sue, (see I got your name right!!)...they are a good bunch and I quite enjoyed the last meeting.

I'm reading novels too...and knitting...and gaming...stuff I usually catch up on in winter.

I think sharing is good...which is why I will do it...plus I quite like to share what I have learnt.

  4. That's crazy that it's so rainy over there for you...sunny skies here though it is a bit on the cool side. Do you have a water butte at your allotment yet? Maybe now's the time to stock up on some water considering the ban!

    1. Oh I wish we had some more sun Tanya.

As for the water butts...I have 5 large ones, three around the shed and two at the greenhouse....it grieves me as they keep overflowing and I think of all that water that isn't getting saved but I just have nowhere to put it...I know other allotment holders are thinking the same thing too.

    2. I've read today that it's still raining across! Well, hopefully it will help your crops in the long-term by soaking deeper into the ground.

And FIVE water butts is fab! :)

    3. I prefer rain water for my plants than treated water...and I forgot to mention the tow I have in my garden at home round the shed and greenhouse...all overflowing profusely!!

  6. The weather does seem to be uncooperative so far this year, never being able to make up it's mind. We had summer like weather a couple weeks ago and today it's threatening to snow.
