So the weather really had took a nice turn of events and given us some sun and warmth so the last week has been incredibly busy.
I really did mean to take some photos but I got so engrossed in getting things sorted out that the camera didn't even leave my bag...then I was too dirty to want to even contemplate touching it!!
Anyway all the seeds were sown in the greenhouse last weekend and by Wednesday evening most of them were starting to show signs of life. Even the sweetcorn is already shooting which usually takes at least a couple of weeks!!
It seems to have been a complete mad rush with extra hours at work, attending my bee course, getting land prepared, seed sowing...and then just the general up keep on the house and trying to keep up with the washing and ironing that so that come the evenings I am sitting and nodding off almost immediately. I don't normally watch much T.V. but the few programmes I do like have all started up again as well and I just can't seem to keep my eyes open to watch them. I'm so glad we have a recording box....maybe I will catch up next winter..lol
The nice weather is continuing today and I was hoping to get down the allotment for another hour but again extra hours at work plus an unruly lawn at home are going to stop me...maybe a break won't be such a bad thing though after a good few hours of digging over the weekend!
So things are looking up and I can't wait to be eating from the allotment gain. I still have parsnips and leeks in the ground that need to come up and will get done by the weekend if not before. There is celeriac there too but from the first I dug up I don't hold out much hope...I will let you know if I find anything decent in the row though.
And finally there are the main crop potatoes that I didn't get dug up last year. I have dug up one half row and I did find some decent spuds under the ground...not many, but certainly as many as I was finding last year when I started digging them up so we will be having those for dinner this weekend and I will get the rest dug up this weekend too.
So that's all for now. I'm sure we've all been busy over the weekend and have lots of catching up to do. I will hopefully be posting some pictures tomorrow so you can see how things are going. Happy Monday everyone!!!

We dug up some 'missed' potatoes too and they were fine to eat. I'll be interested to see what happened to your celeriac - ours was a waste of space as was the celery!
ReplyDeleteI am not having any hope for the celeriac Sue...at least that way I can't be disappointed!
DeleteAt last, some decent weather. I love this time of year when it's busy and everything's getting going again. I've got so much to do, there just aren't enough hours in the day.
ReplyDeleteI have to say it's one of my favourite times of the year. To see all the new growth awakening and bring those seedlings into the world to help feed your family later...doesn't get any better than that!
DeleteWe could certainly do with longer weekends though!
We have planted one lil tomatoe plant this yr. We dont have room for much as we now live in a less than an acre yard. But I will buy from local produce peeps. Have fun sowing all the little plants. I wish you a great yeild this yr!
ReplyDeleteHope you get plenty of return from your tomato plant. When I didn't have much growing space tomatoes were always a must for me!!
DeleteI'm busy collecting toilet roll tubes for my sweetcorn. Apart from that and the runner beans my seedlings are bulking up nicely. It is lovely having some nicer weather to garden in.
ReplyDeleteI sow my sweetcorn into pots. I have tried toilet roll tubes for root veg in the past but found sometimes they didn't break down so well, I then invested in a paper potter and haven't looked back since!!
Deleteyou do sound like the busy one. I'm tired just reading about all you've been doing...lol
ReplyDeleteI guess it has been busy,,,very satisfying though. I love to accomplish a task and then when I am weary in the evening I can sit down and relax knowing that I got it done!!
DeleteI am still harvesting spinach that lasted through the winter....isn't that cray?! it is tough though.
ReplyDeletelast night we had frost....still to early to plant summer..my spring lettuces is gorgeous!
fun thinking about the garden isn't it?!!
We are still having the odd mild frost but fingers crossed they will all have disappeared by the time my seeds are ready to go out in the big wide world!
DeleteYes its such a busy time for us all, but you've just got to grab the time when the weather is good.
