So the title sums up the weather over the weekend. It was either wet, windy or a combination of both.
That meant no work done on the allotment and so the weeds continue to thrive.
Went to water the greenhouse today though and also......

Lovely fresh strawberries. |
Picked my first strawberries of the year. the taste is wonderful and there was enough here fir us, my parent and my Mum's friend. Not bad for first pickings and believe me there are plenty more where those came from....I feel some cooking coming along!!!
.
Yum!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly were...and plenty more where they cam from!!
DeleteWow! I've only had the one so far. Nothing quite like home grown strawberries.
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat that wonderful smell...and just in time for Wimbledon!!
DeleteIt was quite nice here on Saturday afternoon and we too were picking strawberries
ReplyDeleteI love strawberry season...isn't it funny how nobody ever considers themselves getting a 'glut' of strawberries!!
Deleteoh those strawberries look so good. Nothing quite like fresh berries.
ReplyDeleteWe've had beautiful weather here all weekend, it was wonderful.
They tasted delicious...all gone now, plenty more to pick though!
DeleteYum! You are lucky.
ReplyDeleteWe were all lucky !!
DeleteIt was frozen strawberries that I used for the sherbet from your recipe.
ReplyDeletewas it good Ratty?? I had a little accident with the motor to my bullet so I can't make any until my replacement is delivered...can't wait to eat it though!!
DeleteYeah, it was pretty good. I made mine in a blender. I'll be making more pretty soon.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed it Ratty, I love the fact that it's so instant....and fool proof!!
DeleteVery windy here too over the weekend, jealous of your strawberries, mine are still green.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't be long until they're lovely and ripe though...then we can all have wonderfully tasting strawberries!
DeleteI don't know how you do it, Tanya...those strawberries look so perfect...they look picked fresh from the fruit market ;) I'm still waiting for mine to come up...I think I did spot one...but it magically disappeared the next day...I'm not pointing fingers, but I'll say a little birdie may have come and plucked it away...well I hope he enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm totally behind in updating my blog and sharing my garden stories...In fact, I have to garden today...went out and picked up some flowers with mom hopefully to pretty up the front yard a little.
Well toodles for now,
Tammy<3
I think it is more luck than anything Tammy. Don't worry your garden will start to flourish soon and then you too will be enjoying all the wonderful things you have grown!
DeleteDear Tanya, Those strawberries look good. I bet some jam in in the future for some of those strawberries.
ReplyDeleteI must confess the garden is on the back burner a bit. I got a spider bite on the back of my leg and it is a whopper!
It set things back a bit and the mosquitoes are in full force. I read that hurricane Sandy is responsible for the huge amount of mosquitoes this year. Well, to say the least, it leaves me a little shy to step outside, but I will as soon as I am able.
Blessings dearest. Catherine xoxo
I am thinking jam and syrup and sherbet...oh and tarts and filled meringue nests. To be honest I have a lot of strawberries but I don't think I have enough to make everything I would like...maybe I will have to plant more next year!!
DeleteWe don't have mosquitoes here but I did suffer badly with bites on a trip to visit my friend in Sweden so I sympathise with you. Stay indoors whenever you can...oh and get a new bbq quickly...a wood or coal burning one because apparently they don't' like the smoke!!
Can't compete for quantity, or earliness, but size...
ReplyDeleteSo how big are your strawberries then Mal??
DeleteGot a pound coin handy, Tany?
DeleteIs that what you used in your picture on your blog. Currently we ate all the strawberries but I will go and get some more this afternoon and get that pound coin out too!!
DeleteYup it's a pound coin.
ReplyDeleteTany, growing strawberries outside in Scotland before Wimbledon is a challenge. To get big ones is a wonderful surprise! I know I am a bit over excited about it. Please don't take offence.
ps You should see my celeriac this year...
I am not offended Mal...I get excited about everything I manage to grow!1
ReplyDeleteSo your celeriac is looking good then?? Mine I have to admit is going to be another major flop...maybe above and below ground this year!!
Wowsers Tanya!!! Very nice harvest there! :)
