I've got strongs!!!!

No, it wasn't a typo...I didn't 'get strong'...I have 'strongs'!!

Want me to explain???

Well I'm going to anyway...but it will follow with pictures and will be a pretty quick description so I won't bore you too much..lol.

Weeds are something that is growing where we don't want it to...right??

Yet we also use the reference 'weed' (at least here in the UK) as something as a bit of an insult towards people that are slightly less superior...or are a little inferior...aren't strong or stable, don't have confidence and good posture...things to that effect anyway.

So let me share a picture with you...

5FT tall, strong and sturdy.

So by definition of above then these definitely aren't weeds...they are 'strongs' and just a few of what I have had to deal with although not all of them were this size...these were a few missed at the beginning of the season when I was preparing the allotment!!.

Want to see some more?? Well I'm going to show you anyway!!

weedy pots
Pots with plenty of 'strongs'

There are some crops amid these 'strongs'!!

So what do you think?? They all look pretty healthy to me, good colour, excellent root structure, wonderful growth. Whose idea was it to ever call them weeds?? I really don't think they thought that one through very well.

In my absence of blogging I have been working on this, slowly though it may have been, and all of these areas are much improved although I will show you that tomorrow.

However...this area....
weeds, weeds and more weeds.
weeds, weeds and more weeds.
which is probably the only picture which makes the word 'weeds' seem feasible throughout this whole post has not yet been tackled and has gone from strength to strength and produced some beautiful 'strongs'!!

Last weekend in desperation I did strim the tops off to make it easier to tackle as I dig through it and get some crops in!!

Well that's all for now.

Do you have weeds or strongs??

  1. Ha ha, are they of the edible 'strongs' or at the stage of seed setting to give you some more. I have a couple of strongs in my garden, not many but there are a couple of huge beats out there that I haven't got to yet.

    1. A few are 'edible strongs' but not many Joanne. Unfortunately most are at the seed setting stage too. I will probably be battling them until the rest of the year.

  2. I've got "strongs" as well then as mine take some killing! I'm putting loads of cardboard down at the moment with wood chip on top in the areas I'm not using to try to stop them taking hold!

    1. Cardboard is a good idea....I think I may try some weed control fabric to try and stay on top of things next year.

  3. It's interesting hearing the sayings and expressions used in different places. I've never heard of this one before.

    1. I think I grow strongs better than anything else on my allotment Ann. I really should see if any of them are edible, I would have a wonderful harvest!!
