The fruit this year in a lot of cases was small and bitter tasting. Also as they had been left to there own devices they had got so tall I couldn't reach a lot of the fruit and had also ended up being a little more bush like as opposed to tree like.
These are just two of the trees that needed some serious attention. |
Can you see the difference? All the trees here have now been pruned if not overly well and I hope that next year we will have some lovely sweet fruit. |
.
They look good, Bitter tasting? Were there brown spots on the flesh?
ReplyDeleteNo spots,,,just incredibly tiny and I suppose 'sour' was a more accurate word...There was I think just so much growth and fruit that the tree couldn't really give the fruit what it needed.
DeleteGoodness, it looks like a new space. Look at all that light you have there now.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly has made a difference Joanne...I think I have actually revealed a space I can do something with...not sure what yet though!
DeleteLooks great! That reminds me I have to get the extra thick gloves out and prune the blackberries!
ReplyDeleteI really don't like pruning the blackberries...I still have the raspberry canes to do which are just as spiky! :-(
DeleteLet's hope next year you get a better crop and the fruit is easier to reach now that you've done the pruning.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed Linda...though in all fairness it couldn't get any worse.
