What's been happening on the plot.......

So again it has been a while since I have posted...Easter vacation has been and gone and to be honest I didn't really accomplish that much over the holidays but I am sure it will all work out OK.

The first thing I needed to do was sort the greenhouse as upon visiting I discovered that some of the glass had got broken in the winds.

I had some spare glass for the greenhouse so got to work sorting it out and it was all going great until I impaled some of the glass in my leg. Needless to say it was quite painful and very bloody so that put paid to the rest of the day...it is nearly two weeks since I did this and the bruising has nearly gone now and I just have a neat little hole still left to fully heal but it feels fine now!!

(I did take plenty of photos to share but blogger doesn't seem to want to comply at the moment and won't let me upload any photos...not really sure what the problem is but if anyone has been having the same problems or knows how I can fix it then I would love a little advice!!)

As well as getting the greenhouse repaired I got it all sorted out and tidied up, I also sorted out the pots in and around the greenhouse...a lot of the terracotta ones had broken and so they were emptied out and then smashed up to be recycled and then I got started on putting some of the seeds in the greenhouse. I did have every intention of getting the potatoes in this Sunday just gone but the winds were so strong you struggled to stay on your feet so I figured they could wait a little longer and they will hopefully go in this weekend!!

The allotment is looking quite nice at the moment...a few weeds to be pulled up but nothing too major so at the moment I am feeling quite optimistic about the year.

I also managed to get some tidying up done in the garden and a full bee inspection done this week but I will tell you about that in another post.

Well without the photos I guess that's about it but I will try and sort that problem and put up a picture post soon.

Hope the weather is good for us all over the weekend!!

  1. Your report of your injury made me cringe as I read it. I hope you're all okay now. Every spring when I visit your blog I tell myself that this is the year when I'm going to start a huge vegetable garden. So far it hasn't happened. I do always help my neighbor with his. He plants tomatoes and lots of hot peppers. He used to be a cook in a few Mexican restaurants, so he always makes excellent food with those peppers.

    1. My leg is just about healed now Ratty...sorry to make you cringe.

Maybe one of these years I will give you enough inspiration to actually start on that garden...but at least you help your neighbour out. I like to grow hot peppers too.

  2. Ouch! That sounds nasty, I hope you're fully recovered soon. It sounds like everything's coming along well at the plot. We've got some catch up to do as we've been concentrating on the house and garden a bit lately.

    1. Thanks Jo...I am feeling quite optimistic this year....things are looking quite good. At one point I thought I was running a bit behind but then I remembered how incredibly early easter was.

  3. Sorry to hear the injury, sounds like it was painful. No clue on the picture problem. Blogger can be a pain in the butt some times

  4. I hope you're fully recovered from the injury. It must have been a horrible thing to happen at the time. Shame about the terra cotta pots as they're so expensive to replace. I've just seen some that cost nearly £5 each for small ones. At least you can use recycle the pieces. Trojan and his friends are looking happy with life. I'm sure you gave them a treat for sitting so nicely! I hope all goes well with work on the allotment this weekend and, of course, good weather where you are.

    1. Thanks Linda. You're right about how expensive the pots are...I have recycled them though so at least that's something and I won't be replacing them as I had far too many for what I needed.

Trojan is always happy and for this performance needed no treats...he is just always happy to comply...of course he does get lots of treats and praise as do all his friends!!

  5. Awful sounding injury! Glad it wasn't a vandalism problem. I haven't got my potatoes in yet either.

  6. Lots of the terracotta pots in the garden have crumbled so I am trying some glazed pots. They are quite expensive and so had better last.

    1. Fortunately I had far too many pots to start with so don't need to replace these but I know what you mean about the expense Sue. Hope the glazed ones have a longer life span!!
