Hunt The Trunk.

So I needed to have a bit of fun with some secateurs. I started with this.....

is is a tree???
is is a tree???
And after about half and hours or so I had this.......

The tree is free!!
The tree is free!!
On closer inspection I see this......

bush growing around trunk
bush growing around trunk.
So I think I need to get more of this cut away and maybe find a way to get it killed off so that the tree has more freedom but how to do it without damaging the tree itself is the big question...any ideas would be much appreciated.

  2. Hmmm, it's a tricky one, isn't it? Can't believe the bush turned in to a tree after all that pruning.

  3. Is it a separate bush, Tanya? It could be that the tree is suckering. You would need to be careful because killing the suckers with a weed killer you may kill the tree as well. Check out the leaves and see if they are the same as the main tree.

    1. Hi Sue, I initially thought the tree might be suckering but the leaves and branches were very distinguishable from each other so I think it is a separate bush. My worry is that maybe the tree was drafted onto a different root stock and that has ow started to grow. I think I can only try my best and keep my fingers crossed with this one. If at all possible I don't want to use weedkiller of any variety on it.

  4. If you keep the bush part cut so short it can't put out any leaves will it eventually die off? Good luck with whatever you come up with.

  5. The tree looks much better tidied up. It looks like two different types of tree/shrub from the photo. Tricky situation. I suppose I'd keep cutting it down regularly, but might look like a job for some chemicals.

    1. It sure does look better Kelli, I will keep cutting it back...I really don't like using chemicals if I can avoid it and not at all near the hives!
