Yet here I find myself again right back at the beginning. It is with a heavy heart that I tell you all now that there will never again be a post written about the time spent on the allotment. A place that for the last 18 years I have literally put my blood, sweat and tears into. An extension of my home...a place that helped me through the grieving process of both my parents, a place I went to help with my well being through some particularly hard times at work, my safe space...my haven...my solitude...the place I went to be one with nature...find clarity through my struggles...and a complete and utter godsend through covid 19....memories built over the last 18 years....all taken away from me as they decided to evict me...and not just me but the bees too!!!</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxKHWRQtHtWze2qDiCWfDp32xmi7ZjOkCFRMJFQZL1Q93RFushPXVGLtqL-s31Vw9NJPyYTm_o6xECmu57I1VtfQZMT9gG-RsJujOdjILbc7q9esQsL3sdbxbIXa9u59CrqGmgyC2DvKMiCrTP9NjoUPM2wQXNoQZxZ_AjSRCLFpjBpRchb7cc0wmHBSQ/s5520/DSC_0007.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5520" data-original-width="4144" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxKHWRQtHtWze2qDiCWfDp32xmi7ZjOkCFRMJFQZL1Q93RFushPXVGLtqL-s31Vw9NJPyYTm_o6xECmu57I1VtfQZMT9gG-RsJujOdjILbc7q9esQsL3sdbxbIXa9u59CrqGmgyC2DvKMiCrTP9NjoUPM2wQXNoQZxZ_AjSRCLFpjBpRchb7cc0wmHBSQ/s320/DSC_0007.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>It all started really back in June, I received a letter saying my plot was weedy and not 75% planted out...I didn't have any qualms with this letter...it was true...I was behind this year. I took on a new position at work last October which saw me working full time...I pondered with giving up half a plot of land but wanted to see if I could still manage it. By June I knew that a full plot was going to be too much and so had decided to relinquish a half plot at the end of the year....but for the time being I would knuckle down and get it done. What got me about this letter was that it stated it was 'The second letter concerning my tenancy'. Last year the new committee decided that some compost bins I had in situ on the bee plot were actually on a path...they had been there for 10 years...backed up to a fence....but none the less they had to be moved...those of you who are gardeners will know how hard a job moving 8 compost bins that had been in situ 10 years would be. But anyway...I said I would move them and I did...all but two...these had bumble bee nests in them so I got permission to leave them where they were until the bumblebees left. Then I just never got back to it...until I received the letter in October. That reminded me!! Once I got that letter I got them moved within the week. That was the first letter which then made the letter in June a second letter...as they were received within 12 months of each other!!<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzJMD5A41pSiRgevbz1n1qXmJPVB2lMUdbx-ris3KmTOQXfFjmXAAvndeYLcRg7oKTJE5TJ7nzQ6myjTyjZPA1vmgx5czYv-IgWxQa1ZIDPTnD72ie8sqXmYSW6-UhNba6HdBtSCza_3WeKxfflayXJ7CcQ0mMHVVzuOvxl4-PPewUmHRkKfPsIx7QI3I/s5520/DSC_0008.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5520" data-original-width="4144" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzJMD5A41pSiRgevbz1n1qXmJPVB2lMUdbx-ris3KmTOQXfFjmXAAvndeYLcRg7oKTJE5TJ7nzQ6myjTyjZPA1vmgx5czYv-IgWxQa1ZIDPTnD72ie8sqXmYSW6-UhNba6HdBtSCza_3WeKxfflayXJ7CcQ0mMHVVzuOvxl4-PPewUmHRkKfPsIx7QI3I/s320/DSC_0008.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>I totally complied with the June letter...My seeds had sprouted, grown and been hardened off and were ready to be planted out so I did all this within the 28 day timeframe and got through the next plot inspection...I presume with no issues as I didn't get another letter...but as often happens with gardening things just weren't running smoothly...crops were stunted or dying and weeds were thriving. I have never had this issue before so sought the advice of an ergonomist.<p></p><p>I have always worked purely on crop rotation to keep my soil in good condition but found out from the ergonomist that this really isn't enough with the way the climate in the UK is chngining....so I needed to change with it!! I took all his advice on board, bought lime and recommended green manure seed and set to work clearing, liming and sowing green manure. I emailed the committee with the finding's or the ergonomist and the plan I had been given just so they were aware of what I was doing. But guess what??? They weren't bothered in the slightest...I got a 'thanks for your email...but here is a cessation notice!!</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJhfOTSvlN-_W2R_RhZ5Kk5f0ofaY4IJyfb0B3K6_DyRWEsbjrrgzND1T7RPoCS5MfJqezcgwF4BJM2ytPE3YzpGdo2DZWYAC9BWEVLjg5G0DSQAzIaBOhudX9v_ClIS4092-_7XmCXD6J-YiZIrMlXei8AMRYBajFr0ElshwqH-_w3HNlzpU38n7xHBc/s5520/DSC_0006.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a></p><p>I was gutted...distraught....angry...depressed...fearful...devastate!</p><p>You name an emotion and I probably went through it. I sent an appeal letter which they deemed not an 'Appeal' letter. I showed up at meetings to plead my case, I went to the parish council...at the end of the day...nobody cared...and so....that is it!! My final day for removing stuff was yesterday...the let will be handed back tomorrow...and it feels like 18 years of hard work have just been rubbed in my face. I think the hardest part was hiving to give up my polytunnel. I'd wanted one for such a long time and it was one of the things my dad made me promise to him that I would get just before he passed away...so that was really hard...and many of my past pets were buried there too.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcWWaht5_0ScmshH8Zj7HJ-DdkfIm50nz49IYKqYIc6OLsYDpgXZGav5nGJVXAWI-L9n78dgCJG4sh__2d0uB8J6NhcxhlfR0ERBWhNYmHq9KyAUtOCH1cayp5rYD-VmljafWhYa5tLyZchEzw0R4o-d_97FxZa83Zy_IZt842Nx6gVIkfWOrwS9Qf8as/s5520/DSC_0006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5520" data-original-width="4144" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcWWaht5_0ScmshH8Zj7HJ-DdkfIm50nz49IYKqYIc6OLsYDpgXZGav5nGJVXAWI-L9n78dgCJG4sh__2d0uB8J6NhcxhlfR0ERBWhNYmHq9KyAUtOCH1cayp5rYD-VmljafWhYa5tLyZchEzw0R4o-d_97FxZa83Zy_IZt842Nx6gVIkfWOrwS9Qf8as/s320/DSC_0006.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><p>So that's it in a nutshell really, a very condensed and simplistic version of what has been done to me and I have spent the last 4 weeks clearing out 18 years worth of memories (and so therefore cluttering my garden and shed!) and getting the bees a new home!! I know I'm probably not the only one this has happened to and my heart goes out to anyone who has been put in the same situation...it's true what they say...if your face doesn't fit!!</p><p>I will probably elaborate more over the next few weeks...I have all the correspondence. I have photos of my plots, I have photos of other members plots. I will share these things in the coming days.</p><p>But...this is not going to be he end of allotments4you. So with seeds planted in the plot and things germinating in the greenhouse I really fell like i'm starting to get back on track. Still some clean up to do on the allotment but not quite so daunting now and should be even better again by the end of the weekend which is when I will post some pictures!Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-14269092476888640892020-05-15T18:23:00.001+01:002020-05-15T18:23:37.052+01:00'Whack a mole' anyone??So it's a couple of week since my last post and time at the allotment has been a bit hit and miss due to weather and work but I do believe I'm getting there.<br />
<br />
Before I go any further I just want to thank the people that came by to read my last post and also those that commented too...it's been so long I kind of forgot to publish the comments ...sorry about that.<br />
<br />
So anyway...potatoes and some root crops are finally in the ground and I got some weeding done around the fruit bushes at the end of the plot near the shed. Things are starting to look a bit more like an allotment...well almost....<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LFqWUg2BkL4/Xr7LykiOMDI/AAAAAAAAJXc/l1GCranZEY4T6bsLfY31ENmbHtxU9ydXwCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_5168.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LFqWUg2BkL4/Xr7LykiOMDI/AAAAAAAAJXc/l1GCranZEY4T6bsLfY31ENmbHtxU9ydXwCNcBGAsYHQ/s400/IMG_5168.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>'Whack a mole' anyone??</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So above is my potato patch...what do you think? Am I loosing it a bit?? Possibly...however I do have my reasons....<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ibUM_Q6Iu8/Xr7MQgwccoI/AAAAAAAAJXk/kAzG4m5u1boBMewQrYbSU4hd3h-cCUE2ACNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_5167.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ibUM_Q6Iu8/Xr7MQgwccoI/AAAAAAAAJXk/kAzG4m5u1boBMewQrYbSU4hd3h-cCUE2ACNcBGAsYHQ/s400/IMG_5167.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>Potatoes potatoes everywhere!!!!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
You see...this is last years potato patch...do you see all the potatoes?? I'm absolutely rubbish at digging them out....and then I spend years digging them out of beds I no longer want them in...but...depending on what is currently planted in that particular bed it is often easier said than done.<br />
<br />
So I thought about not planting potatoes...but I do love home grown potatoes and that was when I remembered all the pots in my shed.<br />
<br />
So i thought why not give it a go. It isn't a particularly easy or quick fix but if it works I'm happy to do it and look forward to easily harvesting spuds this season!<br />
<br />
So once the ground was prepped I dug a whole and put the put in it...I then added some soil and one potato to each pot...I then filled with some more soil..(wow I wish it was a quick as it seemed whilst I was writing it!!).<br />
<br />
I don't see why it shouldn't be successful but only time will tell...as the potatoes grow i will add some more soil to each pot. when I want to harvest some then I just need to tip the pot over and reap the rewards!!<br />
<br />
There me be pro's and con's to this method which I will update you with over time but people do grow potatoes in containers but obviously not planted into the ground...if you're wondering why I planted them its so they can draw the moisture from the ground...so that I didn't spend a fortune filling them and so that I can still (hopefully) successfully rotate my crops.<br />
<br />
As for the title of my post...my allotment neighbour told me it looked like a huge 'Whack a mole' game from the fairground.<br />

<br />
I do hope this finds everyone safe and well.<br />
<br />
things have been slow to start in this crazy new world...of course I don't have a polytunnel...I didn't get an easter vacation...I continue to work and life goes on if in a new and very different way.<br />
<br />
The lockdown hasn't made that much of a difference to me really...I'm happy in my own little world and the kids live far enough away that I don't miss them too much by just chatting on the phone and facetiming them...but with queues in town and shopping for more than one household its time consuming and in the beginning draining but I have learnt to take my 'switch' to town with me so even that doesn't faze me any more...the abnormality has become the normality and I will be fine with it until things calm down and do what I can for anyone that needs help.<br />
<br />
That being said it meant I got way way behind on the allotment and with new rules in place my niece can't come down and I couldn't borrow the allotment rotavator so needless to say it was a mess...at least this year I had a legitimate reason for it though!!<br />
<br />
Anyway...a rare thing happened this week...I had three consecutive days off in a row and no appointments to attend and stuff so I made a date for my diary and promised I would get something done down the plot.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;"><u><b>Start of Day 1</b></u></span></div>

So...that very last picture makes me very happy. I can't take it all the credit though...another plot holder who lives just a couple of doors away from me has been furloughed so got a lot of time on his hands and his own rotavator so went over it a couple of times and then I put my paths in place. I am so grateful to him and am now in a place where it will be easy to dig and weed put the missed its and also get my potatoes in this weekend...there are lots of potatoes kicking around where the rotavator went as I didn't get them dug up last year...but that post will be one for the weekend so watch this space.<br />
Stay safe</div>

<br />
I didn't manage to get the tomato plants sorted from last year....or the other stuff I'd had growing in there and to be honest it ended up a bit of a dumping ground over the summer. I also had some broken post and stuff so I used some more of my week off to get things sorted.<br />
<br />
I didn't take Polly with me this time....after all I was lugging stuff in and out and clattering about so there really wasn't room for her and that.<br />
<br />
It took me a couple of hours to go through everything but I have to say I was pleased with how everything was looking when I left.<br />
<br />

</tbody></table>
So everything is ready for me to get going. I haven't sown any seeds yet...I know many have but I don't like to start things off at home as it's a lot of work carrying stuff down to the allotment and when I have started to early in the past then things have died with late frosts so now I am just patient. Things work different for different people in different ares but I have found that this is what works for me so I'm happy to stick with it.<br />
The wind still keeps picking up to 40+ mph outside and the heavy rains still keep coming and flooding but fingers crossed it wont be for too much longer....as the days get longer I really start to go a little stir crazy when I cant get outside!!<br />

<br />
I didn't do anything on the actual ploy....very windy and very wet...but thats okay as my first visit was purely to sort out what seeds I had so I would know what I needed to order for this year.<br />
<br />
My seeds are kept in my greenhouse in some wonderful seed storage containers I got for gifts a few years ago.<br />

<br />
I took pictures of the multi packs as it was so much easier than writing them all down but also in my trusty gardening book I have a list of all the other things I have for planting this year (I would show you a picture but things are scrawled in it very badly so I doubt you'd manage to decipher it!!). I am very well equipped this year and only need peas and runner beans....this is great as it means I can get a few more unusual bits which I like to do each year...this year even more so as with the poly tunnel I will be able to grow stuff which needs a little more warmth!!<br />
<br />
So the newbies for this year are going to be; Crystal Apple (squash), Honey Bear (squash), Lady Di (runner bean), Jewel (aubergine) and soya bean.<br />
<br />
Have you got any new things you are planting this year??<br />

We all have those things that bother us and the wind is mine....It's an irrational fear...I know that but not one I can control unfortunately.<br />
<br />
It's the possible destruction that comes with it that bothers me I think...I spend my time listening to it howl around thinking 'This, that and the other' could happen...silly really...its not going until it decides it's had enough but that doesn't stop the way I feel....I think I should live in a bubble where the wind cant penetrate and I can feel safe and secure....a fantasy I know....but hey ho.<br />
<br />
I suppose it could be so much worse...living in the midlands when storms finally reach us they have lessened in strength greatly....for that I am grateful!!<br />
<br />
I didn't always used to be this way....I think it started after I spent half an hours one year about 15 years ago when I had to spend half an hour hanging onto the carport roof....one of the end struts had rotted through at the bottom and it kept lifting...thinking about it logically I think nothing was really going to happen and me hanging from it probably didn't stop anything...but it was attached to electric cables so there I was....hanging waiting for the winds to ease....which of course they did....and the carport is still there now...all these years later....steadfastly attached to the ground.<br />

So right now...I'm sat at home...trying to ignore the howls outside...knowing that the winds will ease....my solar panels won't rip my roof off and my conservatory wont end up in Oz....at least I don't think that will happen....but irrationality does unfortunately not play nice with common sense!!<br />

Oh well....I'm sure I'll still be here tomorrow....and you ...I live in the UK so I don't really have too much to grumble about when I listen about much of what is happening with the weather around the world.<br />
<br />
Oh....I forgot in my temporary insanity....this is an allotment blog....took a stroll by the allotment this morning whilst battling the winds with the dog and everything there looks fine....Beehives<br />
<br />
<br />
were still standing....shed still standing....greenhouse intact. I never leave stuff lying around so providing everyone else has got everything weighed down and shut down well things there should be good....but as the winds aren't supposed to ease until this evening I suppose tomorrow will be the best time to check it over again....for now I have done one I can done and I now sit the storm out and hope.<br />
<br />
Stay safe everyone.Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-86115282117288486432020-01-19T18:35:00.000+00:002020-01-19T18:35:29.044+00:00Polytunnel PonderingsWell it's been a while since I posted but I feel I really want to get back into keeping up with my blog this year...Life happens...it doesn't get in the way but it's important and so at times things need to take a back seat whilst you get back on track and unfortunately my blog (along with my allotment much of the time!) was one of them.<br />
<br />
This year I want to really get back into it...I love the outdoors....I love growing and I love writing so I'm hoping that I can bring everything back together this year and make 2020 positive for myself.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vqcxeeZFPnw/XiSdyEea9qI/AAAAAAAAJFI/dmutJaG7qJAsVEiBn1-ILR_wbdptiZ_mACNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_5034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vqcxeeZFPnw/XiSdyEea9qI/AAAAAAAAJFI/dmutJaG7qJAsVEiBn1-ILR_wbdptiZ_mACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_5034.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>Beautiful Sunrise</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The days are slowly getting longer and with sunrises like the one above how can we not appreciate what we have!!<br />
Anyway...my big thing for this year is that I am going to get a polytunnel....I have always liked the idea of one and the thought that it would extend my growing period...but not only that ...it will allow me to spend productive time on the allotment even when the weather isn't great.<br />
<br />
<img height="266" src="https://upgardener.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/polytunnel-greenhouse-header-810x540.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Firstly I am checking that I am okay to get one...I don't see why not as there are already several plot holders with tunnels...secondly check the size...I have measured the space and can comfortably have an 18ft by 30ft tunnel. I have a whole plot but on two separate halves...I'm okay with this though as it will make it easy to have in and outdoor veg.<br />
<br />
By going 30ft long I can still keep my greenhouse space where it is and give my fruit trees plenty of growing room....I will also have some space each side of the tunnel to plant out, this means that in years to come if I decide I don't want so much planting space I will still have some outside planting space.<br />
<br />
So that's all the boring stuff sorted...now I just need to decide where to purchase from...I have been having a look on the internet and it seems that if you go up to 18ft wide they fall into the 'commercial' category and so the price jumps up tremendously....if that is the case then I think I may just got for 16ft wide...I have found one 18ft wide but it isn't straight sided so I don't actually gain the two foot inside planting space so there doesn't seem much point to that.<br />
<br />
I still have time to keep looking around but if anybody has any useful places for me to look then I would really appreciate the help.Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-63477027504566552042019-07-18T13:59:00.001+01:002019-07-18T13:59:08.941+01:00As nature intended...So...I didn't get tp posting quite as quick as I'd hoped and still havent got too much done down the allotment that is making a big difference so just thought I'd share a visitor that stopped by for a spot of lunch.<br />

It swooped right down and plucked the sparrow out of the tree in my back garden...was an amazing sight to watch and sorry if there are any squeamish on here that don't like the sight but this is as nature intended for survival.<br />

Stayed a good 15 minutes until my idiot cat thought it was big and hard and pranced down the garden...and this point he took off with his meal to finish it elsewhere in peace.Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-58208128274289939612019-07-10T13:40:00.000+01:002019-07-10T13:40:35.345+01:00An entire month....Well it was by no way intended but it is an entire month since I last posted...it's not like I don't like blogging any more it's just that every time I get to sit down I fall asleep....maybe it's old age?!?!?!<br />
<br />
Anyway....as you all know I was very proud of myself for where I had got too with the allotment...but as is always the case things ran a little amok.....so from beautifully tidy I went to gangly and weedy very quickly!<br />
<br />
Why is it that the weather is always just to perfect for the weeds no matter what it does? I guess that's a long discussion for another time...I have a few fun musings on that one!!<br />
<br />
Anyway....I did take my camera with me several times to the allotment....but i think I need to have a realistic 'This is it now' post rather than dwelling on how wonderful it was a while back...are you ready?? It will probably make you all feel so proud of your own gardens and allotments!!<br />
<br />
Hhhmmmmm....they don't seem to be on the camera card....I'm sure I took some....just need to go get the phone and check.....did find some pretty cool pics....but the areant recent....not even sure I [osted them.....oopppsss sorry for the ramble...hang on.....<br />
<br />
That is sooooo bizarre, the pics aren't on my phone...hang on...will go through the camera card a little slower....maybe I missed the pictures among all the weeds!!<br />
<br />
Its okay...I found them...aren't you pleased! :-)<br />

To be honest I could keep going...mostly with before pictures though as I still have a way to go...honestly I think the weeds grew up like this in just 4 weeks....it can't be much longer as I haven't been told to sort my plot and they are inspected every 4 weeks!!<br />
<br />
So I am getting through it and have so far filled three green wheelie bins.<br />
<br />
On top of that I have also been sorting the bee plot but that is a post for another day....and I will try and go with 'day' this time as opposed to month...or even week....I have so much to catch you all up on that I can probably write two posts a week for the rest of july. Will also try to catch up with some of your blogs too.<br />

So as you can see everything was planted up well and tidy...needless to say it doesn't quite look like this now.<br />
<br />
Everything has started sprouting except the callaloo which I'm really not sure about...I think I will give it one more go next year regardless but probably sow it in the greenhouse first!<br />
<br />
Since the planting the weather has been changeable to say the least and with this weeks monsoon weather I'm sure its not only adding height to my crops but also the many weeds that have sprouted everywhere. I was really hoping to get some weeding done over the weekend but it has been far too wet. The weather is promising a dry spell over the weekend so hopefully I will get some weeding don then...there are plenty to go at but I know the wont take too long to clear if the weather will cooperate!!<br />
<br />
Well that is all for now but I will try to catch up with everyone over the week and take some more up to date photos...give you a lowdown on the crops I'm growing and also an update on the bees...yes I do still have those too.<br />
<br />
Don't get too wet!!Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-75133631108291109222019-05-19T14:44:00.000+01:002019-05-19T14:44:15.107+01:00About those tomatoes....Firstly I would like to thanks everyone who left comments on the post about my tomato plants....I really was gutted when I went to the greenhouse to be confronted with that!<br />
<br />
I read through all of the comments and ten by deduction came up with a conclusion.<br />
<br />
I know it wasn't cheap compost...I always purchase from the allotment shop and it is of a very good quality and the other seedling were planted up in compost from the same bag.<br />
<br />
I know it wasn't cold...although I don't have a heated greenhouse I do have fleece and only uncover when the weather is warm enough...in the evenings they are often double fleeced!<br />
<br />
I thought at first maybe it was something that had gotten into the compost...ants or some other sort of bug...but no...everything was clear.<br />
<br />
So this left me with just one option...over watering...and it was the conclusion many people came too....so how did this happen??<br />
<br />
Well, an allotment friend went away and asked me to water for them which I was happy to do. On their return they rang and thanked me and asked if I would like them to water for a couple of days which I thought would give me a little more time and so gratefully accepted.<br />
<br />
Now my error was not giving for instructions on how I plant and water...my trays have no holes so excess can't drain away and this was where we then had the issue. Just one of those things I guess but maybe from now on I'll just water myself.<br />
<br />
Anyway I did go through<br />
the toms, weedle out the best ones and re-potted them all....and guess what???<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K4hhY_2qFFg/XOFc_HbQ5tI/AAAAAAAAIoQ/3u_Bq3gbl4Q5vQRTexyfv12RSGOIY_qIQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K4hhY_2qFFg/XOFc_HbQ5tI/AAAAAAAAIoQ/3u_Bq3gbl4Q5vQRTexyfv12RSGOIY_qIQCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4604.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>Tomatoes ready to be transplanted!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
They have bounced back beautifully! There aren't as many as I started out with but that's okay as I wouldn't have kept all of them anyway...I have plenty of each variety and I am happy with how they are looking. Some have tomatoes much bigger than mine...but I'm not worried...they all catch up in the end!<br />
<br />
Have a great Sunday.Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-28827670179427710232019-05-17T21:40:00.001+01:002019-05-17T21:40:43.385+01:00It's not as bad as I thought.....the length of time is what I'm talking about....it really does seem like an age since I wrote and I have no excuses apart from I have just been sooooooo busy...bee course practicals...helping out other beekeepers...some appointments to attend...extra hours at work.....having said all that I have found time to get down the allotment and at times I have even remembered to take the camera...and a few of the times I had the camera I even remembered to use it!!!<br />
<br />
Long and the short of it...I am still ecstatically happy with where I am right now with this years progress...I have not wavered at all....okay...maybe a teensy bit but that was only with the mowing!!<br />
<br />
So much so that I have been told how good my allotment is looking this year....now don't get me wrong...I highly doubt I'm in the running for winning 'Best Kept Allotment' but I am content and not feeling at all rushed this year.<br />
<br />
So, what I am going to do right now is put up the photos that I have taken the last few weeks with a few captions for you to look at...maybe you'll see things progressing...who knows what's on there!!<br />
<br />
then at the beginning of next week I will be able to give you an update of where everything is now....I am a truly reformed character this year...I mean who knew I could actually get my butt into gear before it got kicked!!!<br />

<br />
<br />
Sorry they aren't great pictures but they were taken n my phone as it was the only thing I had handy but you can clearly see that they aren't looking there best. These were taken Monday...they were fine when I was at the allotment on Saturday so it happened in a couple of days....Any ideas??<br />
<br />
The chilli and aubergine are looking a little the same bu everything else seem fine.<br />
<br />
I have pricked out the better plants and re-potted them in the hopes that they recover so fingers crossed but in the meantime anyone who could give me some clues I would be very grateful too.Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-79558832884420025952019-03-28T07:53:00.001+00:002019-03-28T08:01:39.891+00:00Eat, Sleep, Weed, Repeat.....Well I was half way through writing this post when blogger decided to clear the lot...this makes me very unhappy as I now have to start again.....grrr...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So it as been an extremely busy week for me...not just on the allotment but also in the garden and at work too...sowing, planting, weeding, digging...it's all been going on and I think I can honestly say that in all my years of having the allotment I have never felt so on tops of things and organised...of course there is time for everything to go wrong but right now the weather is cooperating and things are in a happy place!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So lets start in the greenhouse!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kMRIDO7r96k/XJx31XwdmnI/AAAAAAAAIhk/oMxB1uNBXmYkBbt53l0tG4m7lsP4ReCpACEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_4537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kMRIDO7r96k/XJx31XwdmnI/AAAAAAAAIhk/oMxB1uNBXmYkBbt53l0tG4m7lsP4ReCpACEwYBhgL/s320/IMG_4537.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>You an just see the seedlings starting <br />to poke through.</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u_KiGtvJMVs/XJx31VbQdcI/AAAAAAAAIhk/fMtuquiPoBQNDiSTC0C05JArRIg2HQeugCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_4538.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u_KiGtvJMVs/XJx31VbQdcI/AAAAAAAAIhk/fMtuquiPoBQNDiSTC0C05JArRIg2HQeugCEwYBhgL/s320/IMG_4538.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>The bottom shelf is slower but the compost<br />is moving as the seeds sprout!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
As you can see I have lots going on in the greenhouse.</div>
<div>
I will go through what I have sown....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
<u><i><span style="color: #274e13;">Top Shelf.</span></i></u></h3>
<div>
Black Kale, Greyhound Cabbage, Golden Cabbage.</div>
<div>
Calabrese, P.S.B., Cauliflower.</div>
<div>
Popcorn Fiesta, Spaghetti Squash.</div>
<div>
Golden Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Gardeners Delight.</div>
<div>
Mustard, Quinoa, Celeriac.</div>
<div>
Aubergine, Chilli Peppers, Bell Peppers.</div>
<div>
Back Cumin, Black Mint, Mexican Tarragon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
<span style="color: #274e13;"><i><u>Bottom Shelf.</u></i></span></h3>
<div>
Runner Beans.</div>
<div>
Ying Yang Beans, Climbing Blue Lake, Mange Tout Broad Beans.</div>
<div>
Cucumber, Marrow, Pumpkin.</div>
<div>
Larger Pumpkin, Courgette, Butternut Squash, More Cucumbers.</div>
<div>
Sweetcorn.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I think that's about it for the sowing...oh...I do have a big tray at the back which I have sown some 'Beef & Onion Plant' seeds in...never grown these before and as yet they haven't germinated so I'll keep you posted on that one!</div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3GUhtHCzT_8/XJx9tDRnhWI/AAAAAAAAIh4/WdqfONLVWAYKUk-j8C-EQZY0vohFjzzzQCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_4540.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3GUhtHCzT_8/XJx9tDRnhWI/AAAAAAAAIh4/WdqfONLVWAYKUk-j8C-EQZY0vohFjzzzQCEwYBhgL/s320/IMG_4540.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>Weedy and strawberry plants still <br />to be transplanted.</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As you can see this was quite a lot to tackle...didn't manage to get the whole half sorted at the weekend but....</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AmzVb30rPWk/XJx8oFjPpgI/AAAAAAAAIhs/kLt2ftiP3SE9Oeg8nr3E0c-qaJxjQ-oLACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4549.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AmzVb30rPWk/XJx8oFjPpgI/AAAAAAAAIhs/kLt2ftiP3SE9Oeg8nr3E0c-qaJxjQ-oLACLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4549.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>The potatoes are in the ground!! </b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I haven't grown potatoes the last few years but decided to go for it again this year and after weeding, digging, raking, covering they are all in.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have two rows of new potatoes and three rows of main crop. I have gone for my much loved 'Nicolas' for my new potatoes and...errmmm...I'l get back to you on the main crop as the name escapes me although it's not a variety that I have grown before but it said they were great for roasting, chipping and mashing!!<br />
<br />
Going over that old strawberry patch was tough going as it hasn't been dug for so many years...hard work but incredibly satisfying!!<br />
<br />
So what else....<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-93Nv6ASfsNY/XJx9rcp2EhI/AAAAAAAAIh8/P2UMLzJu-nEJWcaH2ZKnp60TtFLj9PfXgCEwYBhgL/s1600/IMG_4551.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-93Nv6ASfsNY/XJx9rcp2EhI/AAAAAAAAIh8/P2UMLzJu-nEJWcaH2ZKnp60TtFLj9PfXgCEwYBhgL/s320/IMG_4551.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>The other half of the allotment.</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Well this is the other half...a few weeds coming through here and there but not too bad at all and I will be getting those sorted ver the next week or so before it gets too bad...under the netting are brassicas from last year nut they didn't do too well though I think that is as much due to bad management as last years weather.<br />
<br />
I also got other bits done but right now I am running out of time so I will get back to you all with the other things that have been going on in a few days....right now the sky is clear..the sun is shining...and I have to go and do some shopping though I would much rather go and spend some more time down the allotment!!<br />
<br />
Have a great day everyone!!</div>
Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-51577445847943117632019-03-23T22:19:00.001+00:002019-03-23T22:19:20.344+00:00A bit of a back log!!Well I finally got all the photos Ive taken since I started spending some time down the allotment and rather than eke it out I thought I'd bring everyone up to speed in a quick post....this was going to go up earlier tin the week but the laptop battery died and then the rest of the week ranaway with work and chores....so what was I up to over the last few weeks???<br />
<br />
Well there was plenty of rubbish to be sorted out so I had one of these!!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JQktlWu-VHs/XJapLr_Fy_I/AAAAAAAAIdQ/CJYaLsc7OmI-JAr3P3GE1VBfQzBrDU4DACLcBGAs/s1600/WP_20190210_17_28_33_Pro_LI.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="903" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JQktlWu-VHs/XJapLr_Fy_I/AAAAAAAAIdQ/CJYaLsc7OmI-JAr3P3GE1VBfQzBrDU4DACLcBGAs/s320/WP_20190210_17_28_33_Pro_LI.jpg" width="180" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>I love a good bonfire.</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I don't think you can beat a good bonfire...I love to watch the flames and of course all that ash can be dug back int the ground...I compost a lot of stuff but when it comes to woody cuttings this is a much quicker method and warmer too!!<br />
<br />
The shed had started to disappear among the brambles at the top of the plot so they had to be tamed....<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sQvYNRdeuQo/XJap9cht_9I/AAAAAAAAIdY/JQ6nZzkMLBwIeC5JJ3ZxWA2Whp62nwrdQCEwYBhgL/s1600/WP_20190221_14_21_20_Pro.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="903" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sQvYNRdeuQo/XJap9cht_9I/AAAAAAAAIdY/JQ6nZzkMLBwIeC5JJ3ZxWA2Whp62nwrdQCEwYBhgL/s320/WP_20190221_14_21_20_Pro.jpg" width="180" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #274e13; font-size: small;"><b>Brambles!!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Not only were they taking over the shed they were also swamping the pond area....which is just a plastic sandpit boat sunk into the ground and filled with water but it works and is a welcome drink for the wildlife.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway...I got very brutal with the brambles and where I cut the back as I couldn't get all the routes out and where I had to cut them back I prayed the fresh cuts in the hopes taht I can kill them off....Brambles are great for the fruit but only if they are in the right area....after about an hour and a half and many cuts and splinters (even through my heavy duty gloves!) things were looking much better.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

You can see that I have to sort out the guttering but overall it was time well spent...there is still plenty of tidying to do that end but I am certainly on the right track.<div>

It has been cleared up to the pathway you can see in the middle....the ground wasn't too bad to be honest...beyond the path is the worst but as it has the old strawberry patch there but one step at a time!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And finally I had a good tidy up in the greenhouse.</div>

<div>
So all these photos were actually taken a couple of weeks ago...things have moved on since then but that's for another post!</div>
Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-2612379976179317062019-03-09T15:10:00.001+00:002019-03-23T21:37:16.231+00:00Well how bad do I feel?????The simple answer to that is....really, really, really, really bad!!<br />
Why??<br />
Well after my last post I was right back out of the swing of things again...it was one thing after another....blah,blah,blah....won't bore you with the details...but here we are...now into the third month of 2019 and I thought to myself...right...I'm going on blogger...only to find all these wonderful comments from people that I had neither published or replied to.<br />
<br />
So I would like to start off thanking everyone for not deserting me...apologising for not acknowledging the fact that you had not deserted me...and for also not blaming you if you thought...well sod her then...and never come back again!!<br />
<br />
However...having said that...I would miss you all should you decide not to visit anmore!<br />
<br />
So without and more grovelling I will get on with a post.<br />
<br />
Last years weather just meant that the allotment nor the bees amounted too much. Little rain meant little nectar which meant little honey and practically no swarms so I did not get to replenish my numbers after winter losses...it's a shame but that's just how it goes sometimes. I am going into this summer with currently one active hive...not where I wanted to be so I think this may be the year (and the first since I started out) that I buy a colony of bees as I really want more bees around to pollinate the crops....the two other beekeepers who were on the allotments no longer have bees for one reason or another so now more than ever we want to keep the numbers up!<br />
<br />
I was hoping to post some allotment pictures in this post but unfortunately they don't appear to be on the sd card I have just inserted into the computer so instead right now I will share with you the newest member of the family.....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6_oZA6xnOYo/XIPRvWNKHlI/AAAAAAAAIcA/48r8kkdg-cUWp7Eq-zYHolVfLvTUvf8HwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6_oZA6xnOYo/XIPRvWNKHlI/AAAAAAAAIcA/48r8kkdg-cUWp7Eq-zYHolVfLvTUvf8HwCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4400.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #274e13; font-size: small;"><b>This is Linnaeus...albino corn snake,<br />2 years old</b></span>.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Yes, I got a snake....currently only 2 foot long but beautiful...though the Hubby would totally disagree....it really gives him the creeps nad has to say totally out of the way when he is home!<br />
<br />
Well we had a lovely spell of weather in February which gave me chance to get on top of a few thigs at the allotment...mainly tidying and weeding stuff but it was nice to get out and enjoy some sunshine after the short dreary days.<br />
<br />
Consequently at this moment in time I am feeling optimistic for the coming year...last year I got very little harvest due to the lack of water....hopefully this year will be a little better...my fruit did really well though and as always the Markhams shared there abundant plum tomato harvest with me so I still have plenty of preserved fruit and tomatoes which should just about see us through until we start harvesting fresh again....lets cut to another picture or two...<br />

My raspberries always seem to do well no matter what the weather and so I got plenty of this last year....<br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-09dtFMjf1v4/XIPUswZxY6I/AAAAAAAAIco/Dlrj10JzFgwEO2GpnZP7JvMThFBYcmQjwCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-09dtFMjf1v4/XIPUswZxY6I/AAAAAAAAIco/Dlrj10JzFgwEO2GpnZP7JvMThFBYcmQjwCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4114.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #274e13; font-size: small;"><b>You can't beat homemade raspberry syrup <br />and jelly!!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The garlic did nothing....I usually put it in around october but didn't get it in in 2017 so planted it in the late spring but with the weather nothing came of it...too warm to quick and too dry...I got a few onions but not much so this is what I was left with for the year....<br />
<span style="color: #274e13;"><b><br /></b></span>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y1HQjQ3bTXU/XIPVWt9AsMI/AAAAAAAAIc0/tY2RjYa_4N0i0qsewWH4jCZDvj2fJMgdQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><span style="color: #274e13;"><b><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y1HQjQ3bTXU/XIPVWt9AsMI/AAAAAAAAIc0/tY2RjYa_4N0i0qsewWH4jCZDvj2fJMgdQCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4115.JPG" width="240" /></b></span></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #274e13; font-size: small;"><b>I am used to this being full of <br />onion powder!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I know it doesn't look much like onion but the only way I can add onion to my dishes with out the hubby moaning is to dehydrate them and grind them to dust...it doesn't lose any of its flavour and is greta added to any dish or even just used as a rub...I do this with my tomatoes too!<br />
<br />
Believe it or not I have had those photos since last year and just never got around to posting...the thing is...I don't really know why....I enjoy the blog...I like writing and telling my stories...I enjoy see what is going well for others....it just didn't happen...I think I need to be a little less disconnected and keep at this...after all I use it like my personal diary and I now dont have one for 2018.<br />
<br />
Anyway..like I said...I have been busy but I will leave that and some other news for another post...and I am going to write this time...I have some exciting newbies to try so its important I keep a good succession of writing up this year...<br />
Well I opened with a pet so feel I should close with one...have a good weekend!<br />

(which considering the length of time since I last wrote i wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't!!) I will give you a qucik peek....ready for it......<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PY6vosSfg44/WxhHEtsHjSI/AAAAAAAAIXA/1aWQQfvBlO07d8yiaAbwV4UopE418xmTACLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4291.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PY6vosSfg44/WxhHEtsHjSI/AAAAAAAAIXA/1aWQQfvBlO07d8yiaAbwV4UopE418xmTACLcBGAs/s400/IMG_4291.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;">its an allotment..honest!</span></b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Needless to say a got a bit of a talking to from the committee and quite rightly so, I didn't mean to let it get like this. I had fully intended on sorting it at easter but the weather was so diabolical that there just wasn't chance and then life got incredibly busy....so there I was planning in my head when I would get on with things and then a car pulled over!!<br />
I really should have got a letter but a quiet word fron the secretary had me making promises which I intended to keep...after all this time I did not intend to loose my beloved allotment.<br />
<br />
So anyway, that was two and a half weeks ago...I haven't got it all done yet...along with my entire plot looking like this I also had the bee plot to sort as the grass was above knee high. I have been working on that ont too but will share that next time.<br />
<br />
So what do I have now???....<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AFGLdDwCq00/WxhIfQx7wKI/AAAAAAAAIXQ/YsUzL5CT2OEaDjXm8AK13NpBYW5iRqNDgCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4292.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AFGLdDwCq00/WxhIfQx7wKI/AAAAAAAAIXQ/YsUzL5CT2OEaDjXm8AK13NpBYW5iRqNDgCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4292.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;">Tada!! I have earth...and under that earth are seeds!!</span></b></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h_qX4wW4iqk/WxhIfMPC4yI/AAAAAAAAIXM/W51Vuyp_M1kotLN0WuE0a9woZ3D62ROqQCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_4293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h_qX4wW4iqk/WxhIfMPC4yI/AAAAAAAAIXM/W51Vuyp_M1kotLN0WuE0a9woZ3D62ROqQCLcBGAs/s320/IMG_4293.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: small;"><b>I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself!!</b></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So as you can see..still a lot to do but I am alive, well and pretty crackered from all the work I have put in so far.<br />
<br />
I have more to plant but in order to do that I have more to clear but as of today I am going to try and keep writing and I will also share with you some of my exciting new crops.<br />
<br />
Hope all my readers are well and that those of you who garden are having a less tiresome season than me!!Tanya.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08436595615435609755noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175981378563441793.post-81538055772959708862017-11-26T21:30:00.001+00:002017-11-26T21:30:06.592+00:00And there goes another one!!Month that is..I can't believe how quickly they are flying by!!<br />
<br />
Nothing much happening on the allotment front.<br />
<br />
The bees are all sorted for winter.<br />
<br />
The plot is as weedy as it could be but I won't stress over it...it's winter after all...time to kick back and relax for a bit...as if.....so much to do!!<br />
<br />
So I am getting on with things and getting sorted for christmas...just think..if I manage to miss another month of writing then christmas will be all over and done with and the days will already be getting longer!!<br />
<br />
But I don't intend to miss another month...I just need to get into the swing of things again...I love my blogs and my writings...and I think (in my head anyway) that I will be getting more on top of this aspect...not just to keep you guys coming back and reading but for my own personal satisfaction too...after all this is my diary of sorts and I really think when I am keeping the blog up to date then I am staying on top of things on the plot too.<br />
<br />
I want to grow some wonderful products next year and have my eye on a few exciting new bits to try too so watch this space.<br />
<br />
Well this was a bit of an impromptu post but I don't want to leave you with just words but write now all I have handy to share is my Queen....<br />

Isn't she a beauty?? I didn't snap the photo. It was taken by another beekeeper and a fantastic photographer. I highly recommend him so if you need a photographer for an event or just for a family portrait (including your pets!!) then you can find John Perring <a href="http://www.johnperringphotography.co.uk/" target="_blank">here</a>. I highly recommend him!<br />

I really don't know...yes I've been busy with some stuff but not overly so....we had a wonderful family wedding....we've had some glorious family time...we have a new family member.....I haven't been too hot on staying on top of the allotment.....I am on another 'staycation'.....yep...not really that much to report to be honest.<br />
<br />
I have been giving a lot of thought to my allotment...I don't want to give up the allotment but I have been thinking of ways to manage it easier so I can get the enjoyment back. Being on the committee was certainly an experience but I did loose my way rather a lot...I'm hoping that with some careful thinking I can get myself back on the right path and enjoy it once again in 2018.<br />
<br />
The bees have done well this year....and honey sales have been up, up, up!! So much so struggled to keep up with the spinning....A few extra purchases this year will make it a lot smoother next year.<br />
<br />
So don't have much else to tell but will share a few pics with you.<br />

I also put a few blackberries in the freezer whole....there are plenty more to come too.<br />
You may wonder why I have onion and tomato powder? Well the onion powder is for me o add to dishes as I wish when cooking. The Hubby doesn't dislike the taste of onions but detests the texture and this way I get the flavour in without the fuss of him moaning.<br />
I tried making tomato powder a few years ago and have never looked back! I love the versatility of it...it's easy to store and takes up less room than any other preservation method and can quickly and easily be added to any meal to give it a huge hit of flavour...you can also reconstitute it to make tomato juice or soup!!<br />
<br />
I am going to try dehydrating and powdering some blackberries this year too...my nephew is eager to see how well they go with milk....I do love a good experiment so I'll let you know how that one goes!!<br />
<br />
I did take some time out Monday to go over to Melton Country Park with the Hubby and Polly on Monday and it was really nice...since then it's been pretty much work....but another two days and then I can get a bit more done on the allotments!!<br />

<br />
So week 3 was home after hols which meant the usual mundane of catching up on washing and ironing and cleaning...there were a couple of family birthdays thrown in and also me realising that I couldn't put off decorating the kitchen and downstairs hallway any longer so I went on a paint hunt.<br />
<br />
I did pick out some beautiful colour choices...limeade, jelly bean, a touch of silver, bumblebee...and a sort of lavender colour...all bright and glorious ...and not one to the hubbys taste!!<br />
<br />
After this I made him go and pick colours...I wasn't overly bothered to be honest...I just wanted to get them decorated....so he went with soft lime for the kitchen and duck egg blue for the hallway!!<br />
<br />
There was also a little bit of allotmenting in there somewhere too!<br />
<br />
So week 4 was then of course decorating....and pretty much a lot more decorating...I am so happy that it's done...the colours do look great.....<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
We had a lovely holiday in Norfolk. We stayed in a small village called Thornham about 5 miles from Hunstanton.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The village was a very picturesque and there were some beautiful walks and beaches though the local amenities were a little pricey!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Whilst staying in Thornham we also visited Hunstanton, Wells-next-the-sea, Brancaster....and a few other 'somewheres' in between but the names escape me!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The youngest has his first taste of lobster...we went crabbing, caught a jellyfish and some prawns and shrimps and Polly got her first view of the beach and see which went down VERY well.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here's a few pics from the hols for you to have a look at!!</div>

<br />
To be honest the first week was a little mundane and involved mainly on catching up with housework though to make it a little more bearable I did go down to the allotment quite a bit for some fresh air and as always much needed weeding.<br />
<br />
I didn't take too many ics whilst there though I did find a few I never got around to posting so here they are now!!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d;">You can see from these first two pics that I have had some pretty horrific jungles to deal with...it doesn't look like this now but I do need to get radical this autumn so that I have a better start next year!!</span></b></div>
