Firstly I suppose carts isn't strictly speaking accurate...it should say driving as my Hubby went out yesterday to take his Driving test. Nice and early in the morning he went and it was an overcast day so visibility was good and as it warmed a little overnight road conditions were good for him with no ice patches.
Whilst he was out on his test I received a phone call from someone else on the committee...yes it's happened again, at least 10 shed were broken into on the allotment mine being one of them so of course I had to go and survey any damage to the shed and find out if there were any losses.
The tools were piled outside the shed. |
Some of the sheds had expensive tooling in them too. It just seems such a pointless waste of time. It was reported to the police so the crime has been logged but obviously we aren't going to get anywhere with that!
Anyway as I was coming back from the plot my Hubby showed up. He is now a fully licensed driver...of course we then had to spend money out on a new battery and dodgy tyre for the car but I am sure he will enjoy not having to bike to work on Monday morning!
So then it was the manure. Many years ago when I was at school I used to look after some children. Those children are all grown up now but their parents parted and Dad re-married and had another child. They have a horse and a conversation with him led to another with his wife and off we went to collect manure. Totally free of charge, bagged and ready to go and we can go and collect on a regular basis. One of the committee members took me up with his trailer and two loads later we had cleared the heap from the stables down to the plot. This will be free for all allotment holders to use and the fact that it's bagged and waiting to be picked up by anyone wanting it means that it won't stink the place out too much or make a huge mess.
So it was certainly an eventful Saturday but today has been much calmer so I managed to catch up with all my blogs and get another post to you as well.
Hope you're all enjoying your weekend!!
.
Congratulations to your hubby, I'm sure it will make a huge difference to him, especially in this weather. Sorry to hear about the break ins, perhaps they were after something specific, rotavators or lawn mowers perhaps. Good news on the manure. We're lucky to have stables near by which are only too happy to let us have their manure free of charge.
ReplyDeleteThank,s Jo. He is especially loving not having to bike to work throughout the winter!
DeleteNot really sure about the break ins. A camping stove was taken but that was about all...weird.
It's always good to find a regular supply of reliable manure for everyone to use.
congratulations to your husband, that must be a great feeling.
ReplyDeleteThat does seem pretty senseless to break into sheds and putting tools outside. Sounds like a really stupid prank. Glad to hear you didn't have anything missing though
Thanks Ann.
DeleteI think sometimes it is just bored kids playing pranks.
Annoying but better than the alternative I guess.
Congrats on acquiring a chauffeur!
ReplyDeleteSounds, from your description, as if the thieves were teeing up a bulk collection when they scarpered for some reason - interrupted? The police may see a pattern, so it was as well to report it.
Thanks Mal...though I have to admit to not having been out in the car as yet....I'm not use to one so therefore can live without it.
DeleteMaybe that's what they were doing...but with the allotments being surrounded by fields and not lit at all I think this would make things a lot more difficult than grabbing the stuff immediately...guess we will never really know what they were planning.
It really is upsetting when your private allotment space is encroached on this way. I'm sorry! We've had similar problems - hopefully all in the past now, but as we know - it never is. Nice post, lovely read and congratulations on your manure!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you Roy and Tanya. I don't think it matter's whether it is your allotment or at home, you still get that same sense of intrusion. I guess we were lucky to have nothing taken this time.
DeleteAlways great to get a regular manure source/
Well done with the manure...I'm sure your fellow plotholders will be delighted! That's also great news about your hubby's license! Now he can pick you up when you feel like a girls night ;)
ReplyDeleteThe sheds are a bit perplexing and seem to have been invaded by someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder! No joke, do you have anyone with that issue living in the area? My feeling is that if it were a bulk collection then all the tools would be in one pile awaiting pick-up.
Everyone is happy with the manure Tanya...though with the horrible weather of late not many people have been down the allotments so the first shipment hasn't totally disappeared yet.
DeleteI'm sure there are plenty of people with O.C.D. in the area...we do live in the largest village in Lincolnshire!!
I'm with you on collecting all the tools to one place...maybe it was someone with not too much forward planning?!?!
that stinks about the sheds...but is great about your husband!
ReplyDeleteIt does stink about the sheds...though not as much as that manure did..lol.
DeleteIt is great for Hubby...he was very happy to get it over and done with!
Congratulations to your hubby on passing his test.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz...I will let him know!
