It's not anything I have ever made before and I didn't have a recipe for it myself but saw one on Catherine s blog at 'Living The Gourmet' here.
I just put a link in for the recipe and feel no need to write it out myself. If you have never been over to Catherine s blog before it is well worth a look, She submits some wonderful recipes and I have tried many from her and her daughter Tammy who often puts recipes on too.
Pumpkin Pie |
The pie cooked well and looked lovely in presentation and it was a nice taste and texture but personally for me I found it a little bland. It is all down to personal taste I know so if you decide to give it a try I urge you to stick with the original recipe first as everyone's tastes are different. My Dad thought it was great!!
I think when I may it again I will try adding some ginger to it and probably do a straight pastry base as I found the one used a little sweet for my tastes.
Enjoy your day!!
.
It looks lovely. I've never tried pumpkin pie.
ReplyDeleteNeither had I Jo, the only problem with me never having tried it before is I don't know if I made it well..lol
DeleteWe tried pumpkin pie a year or so ago for the first time but we use squash in the recipe. I was really surprised by how it turned out - not at all what I was expecting but really good.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what to expect to be honest Sue...what squash do you use?? Is it a savoury or sweet pie that you make?
DeleteWe've used Crown Prince and the pie is a sweet one. The nearest I can describe it is a bit like an egg custard which sounds weird doesn't it? I read that often in the US pumpkin pie is made from tinned squash - don't know how true this is.
Deleteoh the pie looks good. I confess that I'm not good at making pies. I can't make my own pie crust to save my life so I always use a frozen one.
ReplyDeleteI like to try to make it all from scratch but I really don't see anything wrong with buying ready made pie crust Ann...it does save on dishes too!!
DeleteDear Tanya, Thank you for trying my pie and posting it. I am sorry that you thought it bland, though it is wonderful to add the spices you like most.
ReplyDeleteGlad though that your dad liked it.
I wish you a wonderful and blessed weekend.
hugs, Catherine xo
Pumpkin Desserts are controversial. Some love it, others simply hate it. I love pumpkin. I'm curious though as to what you changed? I know some people like to cut corners which is totally understandable during the hectic holiday time but pumpkin pie is best with a homemade pastry dough.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised pumpkin pies aren't as big over there as they are here in the States. It is truly a lovely Autumn flavor :)
Thank you for giving it a go, Tanya. I'm glad to hear your Dad enjoyed it. And thank you for the write up...you're so sweet and thoughtful.
Toodles,
Tammy<3
P.S.
ReplyDeleteSorry I read that wrong. You did stick to the original recipe...I got confused lol....but actually I think the ginger may be a tasty addition :D
Pumpkin pie is my very favorite kind of pie. The taste depends on what recipe you follow. They can be bland sometimes and with other recipes they can be wonderful and spicy. It all depends how you like it. I just yesterday bought the ingredients to make pumpkin pie since it's a Thanksgiving tradition here.
